I was not very regular on Sulekha the last week , Christmas and New Year celebrations kept me busy , but the addict as I am , I still managed to steal some time to check the Featured ones .
I found the featured sections flooded with Benazir Bhutto and the situations in Pakistan . Good!! we certainly should be bothered about our neighbour but I would like to quote a saying here "Charity begins at Home "
I did not find a single blog or post on the situation in Orissa , I might have missed it also so if if any of the readers could pass on the link I would be grateful
On 25 December
two groups of people fought over a Christmas welcome arch at a market in Brahmanigaon. The situation worsened when some trouble-makers attacked Swami Laxmananda Saraswati, a local religious leader, as he was going to Brahmanigaon on hearing about the violence.
Mobs torched nearly 10 churches and prayer halls and ransacked police outposts. While CRPF and police personnel rushed to sensitive areas, their movement continued to be hindered by road blocks by felling of trees by tribals
I was sad to read these news in TOI and Hindustan Times and I am sure all major news paper reported it .The fact that it was the Christmas Day troubled me more ....The incidents are in a very bad taste not only for the Christians but for all the Secular Indians
I am fully aware of the mass conversions of the tribals in the country by the missionaries but these methods of protests cannot be justified.
Orissa is a rich state which is rich in its mineral deposits but ironically it is known for the highest hunger deaths in India .
Is this issue less significant than the conversions in Orissa ??What has The Saffron clad protestors done about them ????
This is the same state where Graham Stewart Staines and his sons Philip, aged 10, and Timothy, eight, were sleeping in their car outside a church in on 23 January 1999 when a crowd began beating on the vehicle and set it on fire...
Was this not a hint to the same Government that witnessed the Gujrat riots that how ugly the protests could turn ....
I am ashamed , I could not wish my Christian friends on the Christmas ..
I feel sad so i decided to vent out my feelings through this blog
Thanks for sparing your time

Look at the past with a magnifying glass and you will find gems that will find a way here!
Everyday incidents, a chat with the neighbour, some convictions, experience with autos, anything!

Right people wrong priorities. It is the apathy of people that is really distressing.
I wish human beings had more compassion and the world was one big family.
Hey you write well but you write very little.
Want more of your writing to show.

Religious fundamentalism in a secular country like India should be protested by the public even if nothing comes out of it for the day we stop protesting the fundamentalists gain a moral victory over us.

I hate the sheep mentality , how can we let ourselves be so gullible everytime ..why religion is a soft spot for us ,why politians can exploit us
problem lies with us more

Christians make up only 2 % of the population (this figure has actually reduced over the last 50 years showing that conversions are not of national importance). But Politicians will say and do anything to stir up the majority community including ruining a minority community's most important festival and destroy their places of worship
Santosh
sad that Politicians are trying to ruin our country
